Admits: Bitdgece| Involving Three Former Husbands Into Trial of Alleged Slayer TWIN FALLS, Idaho, Oct. 14.—Under the ‘terms of a rul-| ing by Judge Babcock in the case of Lyda Meyer Southard, on trial for the murder by poisoning of her fourth husband; |} Edward F. Meyer, the state this morning began the taking of testimony as to the deaths of Harlan C. Lewis, Robert C. Dooley and William G. McHaffie, former husbands of the defendant, and Edward Dooley, broth- er-in-law. The decision on the ques: tion of the right of the state to tntro- @uce such testimony overrules an ob- fection lodged by the defense and is! interpreted as letting; down the bars| for a complete review of the entire marital history of the defendant and the circumstances surrounding the deaths of each of the four me men tioned. Specimens from organs of the bod- fes of each will be placed in evidence together with expert testimony tend- Ing to prove the presence in the spect- mens of the same poison as that al- leged to have caused the death of} Meyer. The medical history of each case will be gone into In detail in an effort to show that the symptoms in each were identaical with those in the case-of Meyer. In a brief address to the jury fol- lowing his decision upon the admis- sion of this evidence Judge Babcock stated that the admission would be permitted tn order to establish the absence of any element of accident or mistake in the case of Meyer. Deputy Sheriff V. H. Armby took the stand for the state and told in de- tail of the exhumation of the bodies of Lewis, McHaffic and Edward and Robert C. Dooley and the securing of specimens from the bodies of each. Copies of the marriage certificates ebowing marriages between Harlan Cc.
