PAGE FOUR TO LOSE OUT? Yankee Outfielder Too Heavy to Bend Over for Them, Scribe Says New York, Ap: 19—Babe Ruth happens to be Babe Ruth. Otherwise he probatly would be rubbing elbows with the bench warmers. Thus far in thix very brief dash somewhere for the “ankees, the slug- ger king has been an awful bust. His hitting has been good enough, but his fielding has been just about 50-50. With a roll around -his waist that has him about thirty pounds over- weight, the Bambino is too fat to bend over after them and too slow to get back under them. In company with Bob Meusel in right and Ping Bodie in left, the babe is helping the Yanks to get the worst outfielding in baseball. Must Get in Condition. When the Bambino gets his home run machinery in working order, he may win a lot of games for . the Yankees but he'll lose many more if he doesn't get in condition to field as he did last year, which, of course, was far from the Speaker variety of skill. In the opening game, Ruth let a drive by him because he couldn't bend over to get it. The same thing hap- pened the next day. Tis throwing has been poor and his, volume has forced the none-too-fast Bodie to cover part of his territory. Failed to Reach Third. In the opener, Babe smashed a ter- rific clout clear out to the center field fence. A mast man like Sam Rice could have made it clear around in a romp. But Babe was thrown out at third and pulled up puffing like a $$$ ie Club Standing | UNA WING BIG SECURED FOR | OPENING HERE : - 4 1 -2 1 -667 ys Pittsburgh 3 2 4.600 } y Casper and Grey bull teams of the |Cincinnatt ---___ 2 3 400'Newark Distance Runner Sets Midwest league will play a pre |Philadelphia ——__. 1 3 333 N Mark in 25. Do you know that you are likely to lose some of the most promising members of the Casper baseball team unless arrangements are made to provide the players and their families with housing accom- modations? Severul members of the local squad are married and although they have called Casper their home for weeks have been unable to secure satisfac- tory accommodations, Believing that this condition would be injurious to the morale of the baseball team and might result in some of the players leaving Casper, The Tribune is en- tering this plea with Casper boost- ers to see what can be done to pro- vide our national pastime warriors with living quarters. The Tribune will gladly handle these accommodations. Casper has a high class baseball team both moral- ly and in ability to interpret) base- ball. Let's get behind them and see that they get a place to live. Tell us what you have and if it is suit- able we will communicate your of- fer to the baseball club. LEAGUE RULES, BEING DRAFTED Conferences Opening Today to Take Up Schedule and Im- portant Decisions The rules which will govern the Midwest league this summer will be ironed out by the mectings which start in Denver today. The first un- dertaking of the meeting in which all team managers will participate will be in perfecting a 120-game echedule. The long season is a new wrinkle in the aspirations of the league enthusiasts and it will be worked ont if feasible. After the schedule committee frons out the arrangements, a regular league meeting in which the managers of the teams and the presidents of the clubs will be represented will be held for the purpose of perfecting all other arrangements, such as naming umpires, deciding on official uniforms, equipment and rules. Manager Abrogast of the local team left last night for, Denver, where he will attend the schedule committee meeting. It is probable he will be joined at the league meeting by L. A. Reed, president of the local club. —_— NOTICE. I wish to announce No. 70 won the pillow top which was raffled off this morning. 3 * Cc. J. HAWKES. L. J.
