Aydelott, Who Goes to Chicago J. C. Grisinger, who has been super- | intendent of the Sterling division of the C. B. & Q. for the past year and a half has been promoted to the position of superintendent of the Caspec divi- sion, according to the official announce- ment received at the superintendent's office here today. Mr. Grisinger succeeds J, H. Aydetott, who was promoted this week to the po- sition of assistant superintendent of transporfation with headquarters a. Chicago. Mr. Grisinger’s promotion dates from August 12. The new superintendent went over the Casper division today, and will take active charge here next week. He will move his family here from Sterling as + soon as a residence can be found, While he is not intimately known by the men on this division, Mr. Grisinger is a railroad man of experience, and the announcement of his coming to thes division is greeted with pleasure by those who will work with him. ee ES VETERAN LOSES MEMORY, WILL GO TO'ASYLUM BASIN, Wyo. Aug. 14,—dames Roberts, who claims to be a returned soldier, aged 38 years, was adjudged imsane by a jury here yesterdaf. Roberts is evidently suffering from lapse of memory und probably does not know his real name. Local offi- cers have so far been unable to find any of his relatives or his army rec- ord although he has given them many addresses. Under orders of Judge | ° Metz he will be held here for awhile before being sent to the hospital for the insane in an endeavor to find relatives or his army status. B. Griffith for re- election as County Commissioner for the two-year term. They all call him “Good Roads Griffith.” They are not only for him but they are boosting for him. They will tell you right out loud that Natrona County never had any roads worthy to be called roads, until the present board came into office. The public well knows who took the lead and insisted and fought for better roads. Have they not seen him out on the public work, early and late, in sunshine and rain, directing these improvements? The public knows when the the county is getting full value for ths money it spends on its highways and bridges. The evidence is right before them. They are traveling over it, in comfort. The pres- ence of a live-wire road builder is written all over every road radiating from Casper. Two years ago the time required to travel the distance from Casper to Former Governor Brooks’ ranch was an hour and a half. Now, because of the splendid road, it can be accomplished by any ordi- nary car at ordinary speed in thirty to forty minutes. Two years ago you could not make it to the Big Muddy oil field in an hour. Today you make it in from twenty to thirty minutes, without effort. Alcova was two hours away two years ago. The road there was fierce. Today you reel off the dis- tance in an hour, even less if you have to. Two years ago the Sweetwater country was a foreign land. You did not know the people who lived there. You never saw them in Casper. Now that you have a first class highway connecting with that section, Sweetwater ranchmen are in Casper every day doing business wih Casper merchants, They purchase their supplies here. They can come and go in good time and have a good road to travel on. What about the roads to Powder River and Walt- man two years ago? Do you recall that they were as choppy as the sea during a squall? Sure you do. Ride over them now. They are so smooth as pav- ing. Leave it to you. . ‘ There is only one answer to all of this. His name is “Good Roads Griffith.” Are the people for him? We'll say they are! Will they come out at the Primary Election on Tuesday the 17th and vote for him and a continua- tion of the good roads policy now in force? They certainly will, and they will see that he is elected in November, The people have seen the wonderful machinery equipment of the county in action. They have seen “Good Roads Griffith” in action. They know that under efficient management that it is a question of only a brief time until the good roads system is extended to every corner of Natrona County. Here Is the Record Following is a partial list of the road projects completed in the, past eighteen months: Graded Yellowstone Highway from Converse County line through to Natrona Station, a distance of about 50 miles. This project to be com- pleted next year. Surveyed and constructed Little Muddy road the entire length. Surveyed and constructed Elkhorn road east of Casper to County Farm. Also secured survey and right-of-way to scenic road connecting with Casper Mountain road. ‘When constructed this will be a High-Line scenic loop drive of 15 miles around Cas- per, skirting the foothills and coming in on the Cas- per Mountain road. Took over old Asbestos road as county road and made it passable for cars. It is the intention of the County to project a 24-foot road over the mountain, connecting with the Bates Hole road on the southern slope. Graded the Mountain road to the foothills, the first work ever done on this important road. Regraded the Alcova road to Alcova twice and put in maintenance system. Also constructed easy grade around Shale Hill, and widened road’ around dangerous point to the west. Completion of this project will see a 24-foot roadway and easy grade through dangerous Bessemer canyon. Guard rail- ings placed on all bridges. Constructed Sweetwater road from Alcova to Fremont County line beyond Splitrock. Constructed bridge over Sweetwater at Independence Rock. Constructed 33-mile road to Cloud Creek, dis- tance of 40 miles. Constructed bridge over Middle Fork of Casper Creek, and now constructing bridge over Powder River. This has been discussed by various boards for 15 years. Constructed road over Roughlock Hill onto the Big Horns. Constructed Bessemer road from Alcova road to Bessemer. Next year’s program will see this road connected up with Emigrant Gap road. These are only the major projects completed and under way. A complete maintenance system has been put in. It is the belief of the board, and experience has already taught, that roads must be maintained after their construction. A Convincing Comparison Here is a comparison between the old hand and horse and cart methods of former days and present day road construction by machinery: It took a hand and horse crew nine months or ap- proximately 270 working days to construct the Bates Hole road, a distance of SIX MILES. This project was completed by the former board about three years ago. The present board, by use of moderrf machinery, constructed the 33-Mile road, a distance of FORTY MILES, in THREE WEEKS, or approximately 21 days. These are facts and can be verified by the records at the Court House. Difference in Cost Under the old system six miles of road cost the county approximately $18,000. Under the modern system, inaugurated by the present board, forty miles of road cost approximate- ly $1,200—a saving of $16,800 with six times as much road built. Does intelligence, efficiency and modern methods pay? Give your verdict at next Tuesday’s Primaries. If Jim Griffith is nominated, you endorse Good Roads.
