Shirley really had the best of Young in only one round—the first, when his aggressive |took Young by surprise and it appeared for a few minutes that Shirley might wih, But the next round was even and |from then on Young's blows were more effective in at least five rounds. Young started his damaging attack in the third and easily won the round. His left got into Shirléy’s face several times. The fourth was nearly even. But the fifth showd Young again most ag- gressive. Blow after blow landed gave Young |th@ best of the ‘seventh. The eighth | was nearly even. with"the edge in favor jof Young. The ninth was practically a repetition, but the tenth saw Young trying hard for a knockout and lara- ing more telling blows than Shirley. Shirley put up a good battle against w faster and quicker boxer. Last night much of ‘the crowd was .boosting for Danny Cummings failed to fight against Joe Goréman in the main bout, although Goreman said he was ready but refused to fight until ‘paid. Lights in the ring were turned out, but Goreman told his side of the story in spite of this. He claimed that the not been paid before ehtering the ring. Cum- mings, previous to the Young-Shirley bout, stated that he would not go on and fight because Goreman’s manager had bet on the result of the bout. Manager Arbogast of the Casper Mid- west ball team and othersenterprising sport fans, then proceeded to collect mohey from the audience so that Gore man could stage his bout against Cum- mings. The lights were switched on. Cummings, in the meantime had im- bibed too freely with drinking water, according to his own Statement, and could not go on. That was the an- nouncement made, and Cummings did not appear again in the ring. . The money was returned to the owners or that which was left in the hands of the collectors, is to be turned into the fund for the Casper baseball team in the tournament. The lights in the ring were again turned jout. ‘The qrowd disgustedty wended its way out of the stadium. Some suggested taking parts of the Stadium away with them. Editor's Note—Kid Murphy and Har- rison boxed four rounds with most of éree Hempel called it a draw. Two small boys boxed in the opening pre- liminary.
