Are Joining the Marine Corps. Combines the Desirable Features of Both Army and Navy. If trouble starts over the border, If s Haition reb wants a scrap, Should any one start @ disorder Where Uncle "s bossing the map— If had little bandits or pirates Tasist upow pulling big scenes Don't worry or fret or get in a sweat, Just esl up and tell the Ma- Fines, Just tell the Marines, just tell the Mart ines, They'll get ow the fob in their scrapping jeans; Ask ‘em for trouble, arid trouble you gets, Yer they've got sharp points on their big rap They land on thefy feet and they’ve Rot nine And they pack a punch in thoir forty-fives. “Two battalions of Marines for immediate service in Faiti.” Not long ago that call went out from thé U. 8S. Marine Recruiting Bureau. Within ten days those two battalions were recruited, equipped and ready to shove off. And overy man in those outfits was @ former soldier, sailor or Marine. | They found civil life too tame. ‘The “service” was tw their blood, and they could not get fit out. Strange? Not a bit of it, Ask any one of “Jack” Pershing’s gang. Ask any eX-m@m-o’-war's man. Oh, you, we all growled at ing in Hi reveille and swore to murder the bugier. We all “groused” at the chow and whetted our bayonets for the cooks. Oh, yes, full packs baat the skin off our shoulders. ut— Remember those days when we Wore, fit as fiddles, could eat’ the hind*teg off a table and enjoy it, could Hek our woight in wildcats, and weren't afraid to’ say so? And Yemember the buddies who bunked with us, Hiked with us, scrapped with us, tool all our money, bum- med our tobacco, called us bad names: and—would give us the shirts off their backs if we asked ‘em? Somehow civil life doesn't often give us friends like that. The man Who has never done a hitch in. the sevyice has missed a lot. Isn't that so? \ And for.any ma who! tx’ looking for survice—all sorts, kinds, con- ditions and varieties of service— the Marine Corps ts the one best bet, The Marine is “sotdier and gailor, too.”” When the big ships{zo to sen the Marines go with them. Be- fore the Marine has a chance to get tired of sea-coing he is landed at Waitt ox Honolulu, China or the Philippines i Oppurtunity for travel and ad- venture ie only one of the things that the Muvine Corps affords. In this branch of the service a man finds unusual facilities for physical and mentat devolopment. The Ma- rine Corps makes an ordinary man into’ a veal “husky.” And there are all weanner of tradeg that may be learned in the corps. Every day ex-Marines are, immediately upow discharge, step- ping into well-paid civilian jobs that range from that of aviator to that of cook. And, as every one knows, an honorab! discharge from the Marine Corps fy tlie best letter of reeommendation any one can have, It is, in fact, @ United States Government certificate which stamps the possessor as “in- Spected and passed as an honest, loyal and capable man, who has learned to use Kis head! and his hands—and use them to the best advantage,” Dovine tie war with Germany all th sda'tional officers needed The Most Sensational Boxing Card of the Season TONIGHT CASPER STADIUM 8:30 p.m. 30 Rounds of Closely Matched Boxing MOREY YOUNG VS. In addition, some Marines are selected each year to take the four-year course at Annapolis, upon completion of which they are immediately commissioned second Meutenants of Marines or ensigns fn the Navy. When we remember that. there Ig one non-commissioned officer to every seven men no one who is of average ability and applies himself can expect to remain a private for very long. The Marine at Work and Play Many people have the idea that the service fs a life of hard work, long hours and harsh disciplin Nothing was ever further from the truth. There is work to be done in the Marine Corps. But itis good, healthful, outdoor work. — Therw are short, snappy drills that make 2 man alert and “on the job” in mind and body. There aro setting- up exercises that-take inches off = man’s waistline and put them on Kis chest. There's shooting qn the rifle range—every Marine is trained to be a crack shot; there's work with wireless telegraphy an® something of seamanship. Its work, but it’s the sort of worl: men like. There must be discipline, just as there must be Inws im a com- munity or rules in an office or factory. But the Marine discipline no reasonable man would object to, Life is not all work for the Ma- rine, There are baseball, footbal’, boxing and swimming for tke devotees of these sports. No post is without {ts pool tables. There is fishing and hunting. For Ma- nines, in their travele, go where game, ble and little, is plentiful and game laws are few. Men not on guard may, aga rule, leave their station after 2 or 3 o’clock in the afternoon and may reraain away until revellle (6 or 7 o'clock) the following morning. Whenever a man may be con- veniently spared, his commanding officer has authority to grant him a ten-day furlough, plus the time requirud to travel to and return from his home town. The Murine Corps destres to give young men from alt parts of the country an opportunity of enlfst- ing in the service for two, three or four years, The local recruit- ing office has some vacancies in Its quote for especially good men. I€ may be that yow are thé sort of man they are looki for. Don't hesifate to onl and taille things over. It wilt put you under np oBligntiow. You wilt not be orged to enlist.
