McCalman of the state “highway department announced todcy that ‘satisfactory bids for the grading and erection of the four steel bridges on the two federal-aid projects, com- prising the Casper-Salt Creek road Were “received and that the contracts for this work were definitely awarded Saturday. Shdrrock and Pursel of Casper were awarded the contract for the grading on the section of this road adjoining Salt Creek for $13,200. This section is four miles in length. Gilbert Brothers, | also of Casper, received the contract} for the grading on the southern sec- tion adjoining the existing pavement for $32,900. This latter section’ is 39 miles long. The Monarch Engineering company of Denver was awarded the contract for} the erection of the four steel bridges to; be built on this road. | One 32-foot span and one 45-foot span{ ‘will be erected on the south section of the road across Teapot creek and one: %4foot bridge and one 69-foot bridge; erected over Salt creek -on the north section. No action was taken on the proposed twomille section of reinforced pre-cast slab pavement to be laid on this road, pending further negotiations with the bureau of public roads. The contracts to Gilbert Brothers, Sharrock and Pursel, and the Monareh Engineering company total $56,200, in addition to the concrete work which swill ‘be performed by the state highway department. i Early construction will be started by the contractors and every effort will be made to expedite this construction, as the Salt Creek road, carries the heay- fest travel of any road in the state, Toads weighing as high as 15 tons, he- ing hauled to the oll fields. This excep- tionally heavy traffic makes the main- tenance of this section a most diffi- ult problem, necessitating very heavy permanent construction. ‘ ——__—. --—— Even if ’Gene Debs has eligibility for the presidency, he lacks contiguity— Minneapolis Tribune.
