Petroleum The United States Petroteum com- pany, which about ten days since lost its rig in the Lost Soldier field by fire, now has timbers on the ground and has begun the erection of a new rig to take the place of the one lost. Just before the rig was burned the ¥U. S. Petroleum company had struck a big flow of oil. The boilers were moved away from the well a con- siderable distance but the gas be- came so strong that the rig caught fire anyw It is reported that be- fore this rig was burned the drill had entered the oil sands and that a few more feet of drilling would have | proven the well. The new rig will [be completed in a few days and the hole continues the necessary few feet to complete the test. The New York Oil compeny drill- ing in the Ferris Dome district, has reported as being down approximately 1700 feet at the present time. This company expects to thoroughly test out their lands in the Ferris Dome and is confident that the result of its development work will be a big success. Rig at Pick Springs A rig is being erected in the Pick Springs district neer Saratoga by Mr. Trumbull and drilling is to be start- ed in the near future. For some time the Pick Springs section has been receiving favorable considera- tion. Strong Showing of Oil It_is reported that the American Oil Fields Workers company drilling in the Lost Creek section, has struck a strong showing of oil at a depth of approximately 7 feet. Drilling is being crowded just as rapidly as possible in the hopes that a gusher will be struck within the next few hundred feet, Taking Up Land in Lost Creek A syndicate of Ilinois and India -apitalists has taken up considerable reage in the Lost Soldier ficlds and is how moving rigs to the loca- tion from Wamsutter just as rapidly as possible.
