pausite PAGE Six ONE OF FIRST NE Ti} ON Of UsT 10 ET HOME | MISS DEAN SHOWS ° tar in her own right, Priscilla ee admired by motion picture de-| votes creerwhare as a portrayer of | | roles, was} selected to play ne ae of Maria, a handsome, jeal- ous half-breed girl in ‘Paid in Ad- vance,” now being shown at the Hub ithe last time today. Miss Dean is \nly on the screen during the first |part of the picture, but the time is {pufficient to give her characterization BURGESS NOB ‘ BATTLES, STRONG CHARACTER | H. J. Burgess, Fifth Field Artillery,| First Division, A. E. F. H. J. Burgess, one of the first Cas-| per boys to reach France with Ameri-| can troops in the world war, expects to leave foreign soil this month for) the United States and home. He the son of Mrs. Etta Burgess, 12 Oak“Street. Young Burgess enlisted | in May, 1917. He has been overseas 26 months arriving in France in Aug-} ust, 1917. Burgess is a mechanic in Battery C, Fifth Field artillery, First Divis- ion, and is now with the Army of} Occupation, his last letter coming| from Coblenz, Germany. In this let-| ter he tells his mother of his expect-| ed return to America late in August. Burgess sent his mother a copy of the first extra of the official First Division paper, The Bridgehead Sen- | tinel. It was published to let the men know of orders for their de-} parture from Germany during the month of August. It ironically points to the record of the First Division—first in every- thing, but to go home; and last in this one feature. The division was fisted for Camp Pike near Little Rock, Ark., as the home station of the; division after its return to this coun- try. | Burgess is one of the few men to serve in the world conflict, who is; entitled to wear five little stars on his service ribbon showing plainly that he served and fought in the five big offensives in which the First! American division bore the. brunt of | the battling against the Hun. As) far as is known here by his family,| he went through all of the fighting! unscratched. Burgess wears four service stripes | showing more than two years of ser-| vice in France in the world war. That the Hun has been the least) part of his worries is plainly indi- cated by the absence of any mention of the boche in his letter or any ref-/ erence to the dviision being on Ger- man soil. The letter was written July 29, after the division had been} in Germany practically all of the time since the armistice was signed, the First Division being one of the initial units to be sent to Germany. | SHEEP RECEIPTS |" HOW A LIBERAL coz: sence som DEMAND ON MART Demand for pattie Lambs Reniaika!| ble with Little Change in Prices; Feeder Demand Very Broad OMAHA, Nebr., Aug. 25.—Receipts of sheep have been liberal again this | wveek, and the demand has held up remarkably well for fat lambs, there | fbeing very little change in prices. Fat lambs show a top of around 17c, | with the fair to good lambs from $16.50 to $16.75. around $11.50 and wethers at $10.60. Ewes from $8.75 to $9.25. The demand for feeders was very | broad the first part of the week, feeding lambs advancing fully 50c per cwt., and reaching a top of $15.75. Fairly good lambs are sell- ing from $15.25 to $15.50. At the close of the week the market shows some decline from the high point, so the good lambs are selling now from $15.00 to $15.35, with the fair dambs from $14. 4$12.50. Feeding yearlings $10.00 to $10.50.. A string of aged wethers here this week sold from} by 25 to $8.75. Feeding ewes from| 50 to $7.00, with the thin kinds pie $4.00 to $5.00. There has been a fair demand for breeding ewes. Good yearling ewes selling here this} week at $13.50, and two and three} year old ewes from $11.00 to $12.50, | depending on quality. | It is a little uncertain what our) market will be next week, but we | will not be surprised to see a little; decline in prices, because the de- mand has been easing off at the close pf this week. However, there are lots of orders here for feeding_lembs to ell from 13¢ to 14c. ae Read The Tribune Want Ads Fat yearlings | 0 to $15.00, and, extremely light ones from $11.00 to, from | {the touch of mastery. | Like Cascarets, they work while | you sleep—that’s Tribune Wantads. | J.
