MONDA' > = = 1919 BEST SPENDER AND BIG ROLL IN COURT HERE Among the victims of police vigil- ance during the past few days the police have picked up what they claim are two record breaking cases, one in which the wealthiest man on police records was affected and the other the best spender. Arthur Ames had the biggest roli when arrested on a charge of gambl- ing of any man arrested by the local police department this year. Among his valuable were listed $210 in cash. a certified check for $800 and a $20 gold piece watch charm. He ‘was fined $25 for gambling. Sam Mondell the best spender was ‘arrested three times in as many day: for drunkenness and each time a roll of $300 at the start was lowered by his ‘sportive endeavors until finally he had to break into his last hundrec to pay the fine assesed. He is being confined at the jail to have time tc think over the necesity of thrift ir these times. FAIR WEATHER OF WINTER IS RECORD HERE Winter months continue to show a balance in favor of fair weather maintained during the 1918-191: winter season, which has been un- rivalled in the knowledge even of the older residents “of the county. Weather conditions have been above normal during the month of Feb- ruary, but lost a little of the pres- tige when compared with the condi- tions prevailing in the county during January. Maximum temperature during the month came on the 11th when the mercury reached 54 degrees and a minimum on the 27th one degree be- low zero. These records compare favorably with the low records of February 1918. The total snowfall during | the month was seven and one half inches with the greatest fall in 24 hours or. February 22 when .20 of an inch fell. Total precipitation was less than an inch with nine days being necessary to compile a total of .85 inches. Observer George S. McKenzie re- ports 11 clear days, eight partl; cloudy and nine completely cloudy. DENBY TRUCK.
