Clifford, Brother of Mrs. Foley, Sustains Double Frac- ture of Hip One Year from Enlistment Wounded one year to the day fol- lowing his enlistment on April, 1917, the day on which the United States became engaged in the present em- broligo in Europe, Pvt. J. E. Clifford, of Hugo, Colo., a brother of Mrs. M. Foley of 479 S. Park street, is visit- ing a few days in Casper on furlough from a hospital in San Francisco, where he has been c-nfined with a double fracture of the hip sustained in action in France. Private Clifford wears the gold braid insignia on his left arm indi- cating six months of active foreign service. His return to the United States on the 13th of August, this year, is significant in the fact that he was the first Lincoln county, Colo- rado, man to enlist and first to re- turn. Private Clifford is remembered by many Gasper people having been an employe of the Burlington railroad here several years ago.. He was a member of the headquarters com- pany of the first army corps.
