Some three months later Trotzky, Bolshevik war minister, Called Cap- tain Schastny for an alleged confer- ence at Moscow; As the captain en- tered Trotzky’s office, walked out, summoned two red guardsmen and ordered Schastny put under arrést. Trotzky accused Schastny of en-| gaging in counter revolutionary con- | spiracies against the Bolshevik jov- ernment, of attempting to rouse the sailors of the Baltic fleet, among Schastny was very popular, to revolt | against the dietatorship of Lenine , and save Russia from. German and other foreign domination. Schastny waft put on trial %ri- lenko, former commaiider-in-chief of the Bolsheiv “armies,” was prosécut- ing attorney. Trotzky was the only | In a dramatic three-hour speech he demanded the execution of witness, Schasttny. said: “Captain Sehastny has perforn: a brave jut like every counter revolutionist, Captain Schastny had the right to engage in counter revolu- tionary conspiracies: against the So- viet government. He had no right to play with the fate of; the fleet.” A sailor in the courtroom could not stand for the latter. Among other things he “How about your playing with the |men>we had come to help them for! fate of Russia?” he cried. _ Captain Schastny, Russian patriot, republican, and savior of th® Baltic fleet, was executed. His last words were: ay, “One must know how te die bravely in a revolution.” A few weeks pridr to the execution of Captain Schastny anoher man, high in the councils of the Bolshevik government, chief commissary of the Baltic fleet, was also on trial. His name is Dibenko. He was accused of cowardiee, drunkenness ,and conduct unbecoming /to a revolutionary leader. At the’ trial it was proven that whermsent at the head of a de- tachment of 2,000 Baltte sea sailors to stop the German advance on Navra in February, he got drunk and ran away, leaving his men in the lurch. Such cowardice is certainly punish- able by death, especially by any self respecting revoluitenary government. But Dibenko, the coward and drunk- ard, was a Bolshevik. He was found guilty and simply-expelled from the Bolshevik party. He is alive today and is engaged in silly briggadocio and in robber raids up and down the Volga. Thus does Bolshevik justice work. Captain Schastny performed a brave task, He is dead. Dibenko was a coward and ran )way, surrendering Narva to the Ger- mans.
