With the New York Curb already listed as a clearing house for many of the more important issues, | word comes from Denver, Colorado Springs, Salt Lake, Los Angeles that the listing of s ‘ in increasing quantities is a probabil- ity of the near future. In an effort to retain its lead among the larger cities of the West, Denver is contemplating the organi- zation of an exchange that will be the biggest of its kind in the entire country An important group of op- erators is said to be backing the en- terprise and with its realization the brokers of that city expect to estab- lish prices upon which trading will be based in other cities of the coun- try. It is contended in support of | the movement that the present Joose | system of handling stocks gives rise | to many complications in trading and j presents an opportunity for unscru- | pulous operators to take advantage | of the public. | Casper, of course, will continue to be the hub of the exchange business, | the local market offering unexcelled advantages in keeping close to the operations of the oil companies. Its close proximity to the oil fields and the fact that it citizens are large buy- ers of oil stocks will contribute to the maintenance of its prestige. Operations in August The principal feature of a report just issued by the United States geo- logical survey on crude petroleum op- erations in August is the evidence it furnishes of a gratifying increase in | production in all fields except north- ern Louisiana, the gain noted being sufficient to slightly more than off- set consumption and to permit small additions to stock of Appalachian, of Oklahoma-Kansas, and of central and north Texas oil, tho insufficient to obviate small drafts on stocks of other grades of oil. Stocks of Appa- lachian and of (Mid-Continent oil were slightly larger at the end of August, 1917, than at the end of Aug- | ust, 1916, but stocks of other grades of oil were appreciably less than a | year ago.
