In commenting upon the statement recently issued by the Peoples Bank one of the officers’ of that institution said: “Those who are connected with the bank have from its very begin- ntng endeavored to make it what its slogan implies, ‘A Bank on Which You Can Always Bahk.’ In their efforts to do this they have taken into consideration all classes of peo- ple—the rich and the poor; the boy and the girl; the farmer and the mer- chant, accofding each -fair and cour- teous treatment. “They have. made it possible for the farmer to have a daily live stock market report without one cent of cost to him. This is something that the farmer could not get before the bank was organized without consid- erable expense. The report has cost the bank over $400 up to this time. The bank has provided the farmer with a sign board also, on which he can advertise anything he may have to sell or make known what he will buy. It has helda number of corn contests fur the benefit of the farmer, and one year gave seed corn to him without cost. It held_a_water- melon contest a few years ago to en- courage the boy and girl living on the farm. The bank has provided a place where letters can be written, furnishing stationery without cost, and offering the use of a telephone. It opened a savings department some years ago making it possible for boys and girls and adults if they desire, to deposit their savings in small amounts and realize interest on them. — In the savings department small safes are furnished, safes which can be taken home, for which no charge is made. The bank has encouraged the use of its steel vault for the care of valuable papers, such as tax receipts, con- tracts, abstracts, wills, etc., making no charge for keeping them. The bank has felt the need ofa real es- tate loan and-abstract company since its organization. However, with the assistance of the stockholders of the bank one was organized recently, known as the Denton-Coleman Loan and Title Company. Of this number 206 are in the High School which is the largest enrollment in the history of the school. In the Fresh- man class there are eighty-six pupils f whom 46 are non-residents. We also have fifteen non-residents in the grades. The amount of tuition due from these pupils for the six months that school has been taught is $1341. For the school year it will probably amount to $1900. The per cent of at- tendance is 96 for the year. The spiritof the schoolgis excellent. The pupils are working cheerfully and diligently. Fewer pupils have quit school than usual. All who are coming seem anxious to complete the work of their grade and be promoted. | This is the second year of Teacher- Training course work. This year’s classes have already completed as much work as the two previousclass- es had done by the end of the year. In all other departments of the High School the work is being well done, but there are no definite facts to which I can call your attention. | In the grades the children are| working as enthusiastically and the} work is as well done as in the High | School. A superintendent visited our | schools this year. He said he had} never heard better reading than he| heard in our schools. I think the| work in other subjects is as well done as it is in reading. Last fall we introduced music in the grades. By exchanging classes we can put a teacher who reads music in charge of each class. The children love this work. There has been marked improvement in. the children’s singing. By the time the children finish the grades they should all be able to read music.
