Last Saturday, June 15th, 1907, marked the fiftieth anniversary of A. B. Maupin’s birth into Free Masonry, in honor of which Tyrian Lodge No. 350, at Johnstown,‘held an open ses- sion and banquet. About 150 mem- bers and their families, besides viatt- {ng brothers participated, Berries, cakes{and cream were enjoyed: Mr. Maupin reviewed the history of the lodge and talked feelingly of the fact that he had been present and assist- ed in making masons of all the mem- bers present. Short talks weremade by Dr. Maxey, Jadge Coleman and others, An enjoyable time wasspent untilj11 o'clock, A. B.jMaupin was made a mason in Callaway county, 12 milés north of Jefferson City, June 15th, 1857. He came to Bates county in 1866, He assisted in organizing Tyrian Lodge No. 350 in 1867 and was its first master. Capt. Jno. .B. New- Children’s Day Exercises. Quite a nice Children’s Day enter- tainment was given at ‘Southwest Summit last Sunday, June 16th. The program consisted of the usual recitations and music, A spectal feature of the evening was a duet by two little boys, alsoa solo sung by little Miss Stevens. One beautiful exercise entitled “True Blue” was given by a class of small boys. Messrs Fred Williams, Browning and Deffenbaugh rendered valuable assistance with the music. Mrs. J. W. Sigler gave two beauti- fal organ solos, also one vocal solo. She ts quite an accomplished musician and her work was greatly appreciat- ed. The school house was beautifally decorated with flowers and ever- greens. This was the work of Miss Fannie Cotton, thelr efficient teacher. Be it sald to the credit of Black school that they recognised an excel- lent teacher and showed their eppre- clation by- hiring her for another year. Tt was certainly one of the best en- tertainments ‘it has been my privi- lege to attend and the people deserve Great credit for it. Mies Williams were: the ones that order Special Chapter Meeting.
