McCue was prousouuced dead eight minutes after the trap was eprung. MeCue’s three spiritual advisers gave out the following signed statement: ‘J. Samuel McCue stated this morn- ing in our presence and requested us to muke public that he did not’ wish to leave this world with suspicion resting on any buman being other than himself: that he alone was re sponsibie for the deed, impelled to it by un evil power lx youd bis control, and that he recognized his sentence as just.” ‘The crime for which the ex-mayor was tried and convicted occured the night of Seprember 4. Mr. and Mrs, McCue had gone to chureh, returning home about 9 o'clock, Shortly af terward Mrs, MoCuo’s dead body, lad jo a night robe, was found ina bath tub filled With water, Mr. MeCue told those who came in that some one had entered the house upon their return from church, that he had been knocked seuseless and his Wife prob- ably killed, An investigation led to the arrest upon the charge of murder ofa man who only four days before had retired from she highest office fn the city, Mrs. McCue had received the contents of a shotgun in her breast, a sutticient wound to cause inst'.nt death, but in addition she had been struck a heavy blow upon the head. Throughout his trouble McCue had the support of his broth. ers, Women Right to Vote. Topeka, Kan, Feb, 14.—After a fight lasting four houre today the house paseed and sent to the senate an administration bill giving women the right to vote for presidential electors. The bill was passed by a very narrow margin, receiving only 65 votes or two more than a major ity, to filty votes against it. There were ten absentees. The equal suf frage bill was recommended by Gov. Hoch in his message to the legisla- ture and had the support of the gov- ernor and his friends today. The house was packed with women inter. ested in seeing the bill become a law. Dr. Glasscock of Kansas City and Speaker pro tem Clark led this fight for the bill. It was opposed by Mr. Hackney and Mr. Beckman of Cow- ley county, It is expected that it will be killed in the senate. Missouri Postoffice Sites. Washington, Feb. 8.—The board consisting of J. B. Love, W.8. Rich ards and J, J. Crowley, which was sent to Missouri to make a report on the public building sites, reeommend- ed by C. J. Blanton in connection with which were charges of irregular ities leading to the indictment of Blanton, has made a report recom mending that the sites selected at Louisiana and Moberly be accepted, but that a new site be selected at Nevads. The residents of that place were dissatisfied with the one select- led by Blanton and they have ar rauged for the purchase of a better site for the same amount of money. In order to permit the change a bill must.be passed by Congress. Indians Brave Blizzard To Collect Allowances. Lawton, Ok., Feb. 6.—Notwith- standing the extreme cold weather the Comanche Indians of this dis- trict are congregating at the Indian trading post for the purpose of receiving their regular semiannual allowance from the government. Several hundred Commanches are paid in this district and the amount distributed is about $2,000,000 a year. The payment {s made under the supervieion of Col! James F. Twenty-Five Years’ Contest Over Ownership of a Farm Ended— and Law- sed Away. yers Have F A noted suit with which several tragedies have been connected and which bas been dragging through the courts for 25 years has finally come to an end at Cincinnati. The case stands as a novelty in Ohio litigation. Old Ohio names figure in it all through, but death ended the contro- versy for all the original parties to the suit before tie end came in The case was that of Su and her husband Andrew against the heirs of Gen. Duncan MeArihur, one time governor of Ohio and its repre- sentative in (he United States senate, He died ia 1 , or one of the few rich , in the state at that time, his possessions including 100s broad-acred = farms, = scattered through 23 counues. Susie Bibber was a granddaughter of Gen, McArthur, It took years for the settling up of this more than feudal domain, but it was finally parceled out among the chil- dren and grandchildren, with the ex- ception of a large farm in Scioto county, The distribution of this was disputed by Mrs. Van Bibber, She and her hus- band considered they were not receiv- ing their share in the Scioto lands, They brought suit against the other heirs, both for a share in the lands and for $30,000 as compensation for the ex- clusion from the land years, The suit was filed in the United States court in Cincinnati in April, 1879. The Van Bibbers' attorneys were Rufus King and his partners, Mr, Thompson and Lawrence Maxwell, Jr., the latter at the time being the junior member of the firm. Tom Ambrose, who later gave a noted name to local history, was then clerk of the United States courts. The proceedings in the court were fought with vigor and determination by both sides, as the disputed lands com- prised a very valuable part of Scioto county. Reports, references, examina- tions, ete., dragged out through many years, The judge of the court died and two others succeeded him, Rufus King died, and years still later his associate, Mr. Thompson, passed away. Mrs. Van Bibber was shot to death by her husband, belng mistaken by him for a burglar in their residence on Price Hill, Cincinnati, some 15 years ago. He | | Last year Van Bibber himself blew out his brains at Chicago. He had been living there and was believed demented over his misfortunes. INNOVATION FOR CHINATOWN.
