Broderick, president of the wrecked Indiana National band of Elkhart; A. L. Collins, cashier, and Walter Brown, a director, all brothers in- law, are hurrying across the country to-night towards the United States military prison at Fort Leaven- worth, Kan. Brown may not reach the prison alive. He was unable to appear in court this morning forsen- tence. He was ordered into court this afternoon, however, and appear- ed weak and trembling. His physi- cian protested, fearing a total col- lapse, so he was not required tostand when sentence was passed upon him. Broderick was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment. Collins was sentenced to six years, The judge in sentencing Collins took into consid eration his service to the government asa witness and took the ground that he had been used as a tool, Brown was given eight years. Eigh- teen of the sixty counts in the indict- ments against him were dismissed. Sentence was on the forty-eight oth- ers. Brown's sentence is two years less than that of Broderick, Judge Anderson said it was possible that Brown's guilt might be greater than that of any other of the three, but that he regarded Broderick as presi- dent of the hank as most culpable. The fact that Mr. ©. P. Walbridge is a candidate for the Re- publican Vice Presidential nomina- tion and that Mr. Bert Nortoni has accepted an appointment as Assist ant Attorney General for the Postof- fice department at Washington, is significant evidence that neither of them sees any chance of success as a candidate for Governor. The element of the Republican or- ganization which will be most active in this campaign will be that which is chiefly concerned in office holding. There is nothing discouraging in this state of facts. It denotes a pop ular recognition of the right which Mr. Folk has earned to head areform administration which his labors have assured. The major element of the Democratic party of Missouri has given the best proof of its sincerity in the reform movement by over- throwing the machine and support- ing the Prosecutor of Boodlers. It has purified the party organization and could be hetter depended on for a clean administration than a party hampered by hungry spoilsmen, This is to be a Demoeratic year in Miseouri—of all years—beeause the dominant party has rid itself of all elements which had weakened its hold on public confidence.
