The Butler Weekly Times. VOL. XXVI. BUTLER, MISSOURI, THURSDAY, MAY 5, 1904. GREAT BATTLE ON YALU RIVER Superior Japanese Force Car- ried Russian Intrenchments by Storm. Washington, April 30.—Officials have reports from the state depart- ment to the effect that agreat battle has been fought of the Yalu river re- sulting ina complete Japanese vic- tory. St. Petersburg, April 30.—A heavy engagement on the Yalu river is re- ported. Sixteen thousand Japanese troops crossed the river Thursday and attacked the 80,000 Russians, who were securely fortified. This morning the Japanese were re-+nforc- ed and the battle continues. Japanese sharpshooters are killing many Russian officers, waoose uni- forms are conspicuous. Shanghai, April 30.—An imperial order was issued yesterday at Pekin f for the prepara tion of 700,000 troops for active service, This is regarded here as & move on the part of China to take part in the war, more especially so since Russia has threatened todisarm the Chinese troops west of the Liao river. If the Russians attempt this action noth- ing can prevent @ collision. China now has upward of 120,000 men prepared for activeservice, arm- ed with modern weapons and drilled in modern tactics. London, April80.—London papers look upon the Russian circular taking @ stand against mediation and in- tervention as a determination to push the war against Japan to the » extreme limit. Recent Japanese successes have placed the invading army in com- eand of the Yalu river from Chung . Keng tothe north, with two full di- visions in Manchurian territory. - An attack upon Antung Is expected within a week, but it fs believed the Russian force, said to number about 5,000, will fall back without giving battle. Soil may be the same and seed may seem the same but some plants are weak and others strong. And that’s the way with children. They are like young plants. Same food, same home, same care but some grow big and strong while others stav small and weak. Scott’s Emulsion offers an easy way out of the difficulty. Child weakness often means starvation, not because of lack of food, but because the food does not feed. Scott’s Emulsion really feeds and gives the child growing strength. : Whatever the cause of weak- ness and failure to grow— Scott's Emulsion seems to find it and set the matter right. : Send 82, wane a ge arigh, New York We are showing a special line of silks in fancy and plain.
