Danes Discover Northern Waters Are Filled with Cod Herring Which Be Sevoped Up. and A Danish navy officer who has just returned from Iceland says the Dan- ish government has observed that the fishing area is moving northward owing to the large and destructive catch in waters adjacent to the Scandinavian countries. lt has, therefore, undertaken a survey of waters near the Faroe islands, Ice- land, and the regions in the vicinity of the polar circle, This work iw conducted by the navy and the -re- sults are interesting and will prove of great value to the fishing inter- ests of Denmark. It has been discov- ered that immense quantities of fish, especially cod and herring, are to be found in those waters. On one trip the Danish ship Dania sometimes plowed through shoals of these varieties for a long distance, when they could be scooped up with- out any fishing tackle. New banks were discovered, some of them of great extent. These appear to be new homes for the fish, and they possess the necessary requisites for feeding them and rearing their young.
