Mrs. Carrie Nation was fined $500 in the police court at Kansas City, Monday morning on a charge of obstructing the sidewalk. A stay of execution of six hours was granted her to leave the city and not return, and she accepted the proposition and left for Kansas the first train. She was warned by the police judge on that if she made her appearance in Kansas City again she would be ar- rested and sent to the work house for a year. These were adopted by the court after a spirited contest between half dozen architects. The court or- dered the clerk to take charge of the plans and specifications adopted aud not let them out of his hands, or per- mit them to be changed or altered lin any respect. This was a wise pre- {caution on the part of the court and the people will get exactly what they voted. County Clerk Broaddus sent out notices to every township board last week, inviting them to have rep- | resentatives to meet with the court on Tuesday April 16th, the date ad- vertised to let the contract for build- ing the new court house. They are placed in a trying position and are determined to hon- estly and conscientiously fulfill every obligation imposed upon them. They invite the closest scrutiny of their acts and the ce-operation of all the people to the, end that the county will have the best and most converfient court house in the state. They will throw around the contract- ors every safeguard consistent with safe and good business principles. Presiding Judge West will be on hand at all times that the plans and specifications are carried out even to the smallest details. The other two members will meet with him frequently to advise and confer and the people can rest assured that there will be no “rake off’ in this work. to to see BROUGHT THEM TO TIME. , The brewers, through their attor- ney Judge Priest, capitulated on Tuesday, agreed to pay the back li cense on beer at the rate of ten cents per gallon and abide by the new in spection law of 20 cents per gallon. Accordingly the state treasury $216,000 to the good on Tuesday it. The Was ni »vernor alsosigned the Hamilton law, taxing whisky 10 cents per gallou.
