Edwards occupied the whole of last week in its trial. There were in the neighborhood of two hundred witnesses in attendance, the majority ef whom were from the north part of the county where the trrgedy oc- eured. The State was represented by Miles S. Horn, Prosecuting Attorney and H.C. Clark and A. L. Graves, while the defence was represented by Smith & Denton and Silvers & Sil-| vers. It is conceded that the case was fought hard on both sides and the attorneys are praised for the | able speeches made at the close. Shafer made a dying statement in which he charged Edwards as being wholly in fault and as being the ag- gressor, while Edwards testified that he was being assaulted with a stone by Shafer and that he was forced to fire in self-defense. Much evidence | was introduced to show that there had been threats and counter threats, and that the men had been enemies for some time. The defense intro- duced evidence to show that Ed- wards evaded Shafer to avoid trouble.
