Yours Truly WILLIAMS BROS, POISONED HER BABIES. Horrible tragedy Committed by an Insane Mother. SEVEN LITTLE ONES ARE DEAD. Work of Destruction Continued by Hanging Herseif. Marysville, Kan., Jan. 14.—Ona farm six miles south of this place the family of Joseph Hildebrant, a German farmer, was all but exter- minated to day by the hand of the crazed and grief-stricken mother. The family of father, mother and eight children. Hilder- brant is supposed to be in Kansas City, where he was under treatment for cancer at All Suaint’s hospital \from December 17 to a days ago. Driven to desperation by poverty consisted few and her husband's illness, Mrs. Hil- |debrant last night administered poison to each of the children, whose |ages range from 2 to 14 years, and then completed the terrible work of self destruction by hanging herself seven dead little ones were lying about the place and their positions showed that they had died in horri- ble agony. A physician was sum- moned for the child that still showed signs of life, but there was little hope of saving it. No more horrible or pitiful trage- dy has ever been enacted in the state of Kansas. Mrs. Hilderbrant had become despondent over her husband's illness, which was seem- ingly incurable, and it is supposed that her mind became affected Worn out by her efforts to keep the wolf from the door, she took what seemed to be the shortest route out of the difficulty. The neighbors did |not realize the desperate straits of} | the family, or aid would have beea | fortheoming, and today’s horrible | | tragedy might have been averted. | | ‘the whole country has been | thrown into a state of excitement | by the horror.
