I am doing what appears to me to be the wisest.” In -this he enclose a trunk key and a note for $219, made at Los Augeles, Cal., Oct. 28, 1889, and signed by Osgood M. Baldwin to Alfonso B. Barker. The note closes with, “I do not fear death, only the pain that precedes it, and we have all got it to face.” He had been at the Maxwell house about two weeks ago and had been canvassing the city for a rubber stencil stamp.
