Farmers, prices will tell. Lane's exceedingly low prices on dry goods is the cause of his house being crowded to the brim from morning till night for the past 16 months. For the past two weeks Sam] Levy &Co., have been offering the citizens . | of this town and county, some won- -| derful bargaing, in their dry goods and clothing departments. Have you availed yourself of the opportu- nity and made your purchases. If you have not it is your loss and Mr. Levy's gain, for the general public are not fools, and they well know that the prices which goods have been sold by this firm, is not equal- ed in any city. The people may be humbugged on something they do not know anything about, but when it comes to offering them goods, such as calicoes, ginghams, domestics, ete, at the prices this firm oftered them during their two weeks’ sale there was no chance for deception. So if you have not laid in a good supply for your family it is your own fault and you alone are to blame. ROT wononiON Kansas The sale will last a few days longer and we advise you to call and make your purchases. ? Farmers, let your poultry come; I want three hundred million dozen hens and spring chickens, bring them to Lane, the only poultry and egg man in Bates County, and is also Lane, the farmer's friend. The fireman's tournament will be held in Clinton June 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th. Great preparations are being made to make the affair a great and grand success. It is ex- pected that 1,500 firemen from Mis- souri, Kansas and Arkansas will be present and take part. The music for the occasion will be furnished by twenty bands, and $1,000 will be given away in premiums. Great is the expectations of the firemen’s tournament at Clinton, and the Trues hopes to see it a great success. | Some of these days Butler will have a fire company to take part in these tournaments, and it will be a good one, too, because the Butler boys | generally do things up brown when | they take hold. | Formers, Lane has made a call for | twenty car loads of eggs. At last the long felt and much needed want at Butler, a new and commodious depot, is about to be supplied. A portion of the frame work and material for the building arrived Monday andison the ground, and we presume that work will com- mence on the new structure without delay. This good piece of news will be hailed with delight by the citizens of Butler, and patrons of the road. The old rattle trap of abuilding that has Jong been an eye sore to this station and a disgrace to the road was not fit for a decent lady or gen- tleman to enter, as there was but one waiting room, and it was filled half the time with loafers, tramps, dead beats, tobacco smoke, ete., make the small room totally unfit to take alady. In addition the office and freight room was entirely too small for the agents ofthereadand freight delivered. Right here, we will say that our citizens in a great measure can thank our efficient agent, E. K. Carnes, for the improvement now being made. From the plans the depot at this place will be one of the largest afd most commodious on the line of road. Lane was compelled to extend his building to its utmost extent to ac- commodate his trade. We congratulate the board of health on its report, at the same time there is still a vast amount of work and recommendations which should be done in the way of look- ing after the cleanliness and health of the city, and this work should not be put off nor neglected longer.
