The neighbors can give no description of Ida, and the only knowledge the police have is that she had been living with Mrs. Schneider since Thursday. One of the woman who lived in the house was known as Mrs. Meyeroff. She and a boy, said to be her son, went several days ago to visit friends in Philadelphia. The whereabouts of the other woman is not known. A child saw a woman leave by the back gate an hour before the crime was d.scovered and one of the neighbors heard sounds of a struggle about 2 o'clock. Further than this the affair is shrouded in mystery. The house has not borne a first-class reputa- tion. Charleston, W. Va., Jan. 9.—The history of the state. Aside from the organization of the two houses which will be of exceptional interest specause of the nearly equal division of the membership between the two great parties, there will be the sharpest kind of a struggle over the e‘ection of a United States senator, and also the settlement of the con test for governor between Judge Fleming and General Goff, while outside, and beyond all this, the re publicans are threatening, in retalia- tion for the contest brought by Judge Fleming, to institute like proceed ings in the eases of all the other officers, and dispute the election of every one of the supreme court. The state senate stands: repub lcaus, 13; democrats, 12, and Union Labor, 1. The legislature met at noon and in the house the democrats controll ed the organization. In the senate Carr, Independent, voted with the Democrats which resulted in a dead lock. Carr, Independent, and Min- ear, republican, were candidates for president of the senate, the demo erats supporting Carr and republi cans Minear. Matters are in such a shape in the senate that it cannot elect officers or adjourn. Balloting on adjournment is still going on at 3 p.m. and is likely to continue all night as the voteis atie. SinceCarr went with the democrats each mem ber 1s afraid to leave lest the oppo- site party will take advantage of ab- sence and organize the senate. Ia the cireuit court this mornirg Judge Guthrie quashed the rule awarded against the county court to show cause why it should not be fined and attached for contempt in forwarding the certificates of elc- tion in this county for governer and congressman in violation of an in- junction granted by Judge McGin- nis of the Cabell county circuit court It also dismissed the bill of in- junction and the certirorari herto- fore awarded at the instance of Judge Fleming and Mr. Alderson. This is a complete victory for the republicans and gives Goff and Mc- Ginnis a clear plurality on the face of the returns for governor and con. gress. Marvelous Success.
