The projectors have only seen fit to make known their line south of the Blue, leaving their entrance into the city a mystery for the present. The line commences on Blue river at the confluence of Hart Grove creek and Valley branch and runs in a southerly direction up the valley of Hart Grove creek along, or on, the right of way indicated on the maps as belonging to the Kansas City and Southern railway to a point a little south of east of the town of New Santa Fe where it takes a south- westerly courge toward Belton. The sheriff has been busy for several days serving the papers in the case and the jury will be empaneled at the September term of the circuit court. As the Kansas City and Southern interests are the most affected it is not improbable that it will show fight as soon as the officials are notified what action has been taken. The condemnation papers are not served on each property owner along the line, which naturally leads to the supposition that some of the right of way has already been obtained. The Kansas City and Southern peo ple also own some of the right of way according to the testimony and judgment of the circuit court in the case of the Southern against the Paola branch, which strengthens the supposition that trouble is not very far off unless an amicable arrange- ment has already been made between the two companies.—Kansas City ‘Program of BUTLER, MISSOURI, WEDNESDAY County Co-operation | Meeting, | The second upnual meeting of the | Christian church in Bates Co., Mo., will | | meet with the church in Butler, Sept. : The Kansas City and Sabine Pass | 28, 29 and 30, 1887. Apropos of rumored large invest- ments in enterprises on Chinese soil, C. B. Adams will describe in the October American Magazine some of the scenery and people of that far distant land, as they appear to the diplomatic circle resident at Peking. Following the article on Chili in } the last Harper's, the next number will contain one on Costa Rica by the same writer, entitled “The Smallest of American Republics.” He says, “Costa Rica was the first discovered of all the countries on this continent, but of its resources the least is known.” After referring to its settlement, nearly four hnu- dred years ago, by the aged, forlorn Columbus, he describes its present luxuriance of tropical products, and the crude development of its sur- prising resources in enormous ba- nana plantations, coffee groves, and rubber trees. Vast improvements have been made recently by the im- migration of Northern settlers into this land of free fertility. The vol- canic nature of the country, which permits only small edifices, seems to be paralleled in the barbaric republi- can government, which is occasion- ally upheaved by revolutions. The picturesque phases of life and scen- ery are represented in copious en- gravings. Laugh and the world laughs with you,” is one of the lines in “The Commercial Tourist’s Bride,” in which Miss Agnes Herndon appeared at Havlin’s theatre last evening. This line is a fair commentary on the play for it isa “bridge of laughs” from beginning to end. There is nothing strained or unnatural in the piece. The characters are such as one meets in everyday walks of life, but they are made to do some of the funniest things ever enacted on the stage. sympathy, and of the kind that will always raise a laugh. Its chief ele- ment is that it is a story of everyday life that all the world can understand and enjoy. } Miss Herndon, who appears in the character of Violet Granville Smith, has the same clear cut voice the ladies to know that her wardrobe the stage. a he li ss | AIN Pp.
