W. Johnston, of Cedar county, was in the city some days ago, and culled on the Mail to give us intor- mation in regard to the much talked ot animal, the ground hug. **I want you to correct this ground hog story,” said Mr. Johnston. ‘*No qne ever saw a ground hog on the and. These city fellows started that report, and they know nothing of the nature of theanmmal. He knows his own time and he comes out then. His day is the :4th, and not the 2nd, and I want you to tell the readers of the Mail that the 14:h is the ground hog’s day. There is a family living near Huntingdsle, Henry county, who have a pet ground hog, which comes out regularly on the 14th of February. He never comes out be- fore that time. I have seen three sons, who live near this family, and they have seen this animal come out on that dav."” J. L. Dickson, of Montevallo, was in the office at the same time Mr. Johnston was relating his story as to the habits of this great weather indi- cator, and corroborated the statement that the ground hog comes out on the 14th instead of the 2nd. Mr. Dickson used to Ilve on a stream called Littleby, in Auanan county, Mo., a good many years ago. While there he caught a ground hog on February 14th. He said he had nev- er seen a ground hog :n Vernon, but in Audrain county they came out on the 14th. This settles the matter as far as Mr. Johnston and Mr. Vickson are con- cerned. It any reader of the Mail ever knew a ground hog to leave his winter quarters betore the 14th ot February, we would like to hear from him. —Nevada Mail. “Never Give U Pp: If you are suffering with with low and depressed spirits, loss of appetite Sener al debility disurdered blood, weak consti- tution, headawhe, ora ny disease of a bil- ious nature, by all means piocure a bot- tle of Electric Bitters. prised to see the rapid rovement that will tollow; vou wiil be inspired with new lite: strength and activity will return; pain and misery will cease, and hence- forth you will rejoice in the praise of Electric Bitters. The drug traffic in liquors, togeth- er with what is imported by individ- uals tor private use, and including a vast cladenstine traffic, is just Jas ex- tensive in Kansas to-day as when it was ‘‘recognized’’ and sanctioned by the liviny letter of the law. There are drug stores in Topeka where choice statesmen and select dudes, deacons and pious *‘gentlemen”’ can step in and get their drams, as they were wont to do in the days of the oven saloon.
