BAD BANISTER. Tue City Attorney of Eldera' with am Alderman’s Daughter. Overtaken bys Pursuing Party at Seheli City. de Elopes | Fears Eatertain-d of the Shock up- oa the Culprit’s wife. Schell City News. Robert N. Banister, a young at- terney of Carroll cuunty, was one ot the first settlers in the city of ElDo- vado Springs. He was soon recog- nized as a man ef ability in the iegal | profession and on the organization et the place asa city, he was made City Attorney, a position he has since filled, presumedly to the satistaction of al!. Mr Banister was a youngman | of considerable persenal attractions and occupied a leading position in| ElDorade society, conducting him- | self in a manner becoming a gentle- | man ef his position. About four months wedded to Miss Mollie Gentry, the estimable daughter of Wesley Gen- try, the earliest pioneer of the “New Wonder,” and ene ot the wealthiest and most influential citizens of the place. All thiags went on smoothly until some.three weeks ago, when it was noticed by friends ef all parties com_ cerned, that Mr. Banister was evinc- éng more intesest to a yeung lady ot the city, than was really proper im a «man with his matrimonial experience The young lady in question was Miss Nettie Moere, daughter of Mr. Jas. ‘T. Meere, ouc of the city aldermen and a man who commands the high- est respect of all who know him. Miss Nettie has always borne an en- viable reputation and it was a sur- prise to her triends that she should se tar forget her self-respect as to teceive attentions from a man who had already given his hand to anoth- er; but such seemed to be the case and fearing some disastreus results, the friends ot both parties put them under surveilance, and had the satis- faction of seeing their worst fears vealized on Monday last On that day Mr. Moere was called to Waiker on business and his misguided daugn- {er and her naughty masher conclud- edtoembrace the epporturity to skip. Accordingiy they boarded the outgoing stage for Schelt City, just after it had left town and started for the railroad. They had gone about three miles, when suddenly vther men appeared on the scene. ‘These were Mr. Gentry, Banister’s father-in-law, D. T. Owenand J. C. Hardman, Miss Moore’s uncles. They rode up and drawing their ,re- volversordered Mr. Rheads, the driver, and a passenger named N. Wale to alight. Mr. Rhoads 1s a man of nerve and he was determined to protect his passengers at all haz- ards, so he shook the mail sack at the attacking party and told them to interfere with him at their perl. Phey readily comprehended the sit- | uation and after vainly ago he was | three trying by threats and entreaties te induce the infatuated gitl to leave her seducer, they concluded to escort the stage to Schell and nab the cuiprits there. Upon arrival here Mr. Owen went betore Esquire Herrick and obtained awa rrant for the of Banister | arrest sa charge ef enticing the young lady, 1 vho it was alleged, was under age, away trom her Meanwhile Vanuster, as soon as the stage arrived | ‘a town, left nis fair companion at the Duck House and started north on the railroad track at a speed that | veuld have done credit te a tonger parr of legs. His flight was useless however, as the warrant was placed in the hands ot Constable C. T.
