Th Family. Louisvilie. March 38.—The hbci suit of Geo. B Hite and wite against the Courter-Fournal tor the publi- | cation of a certain article alleging a the late Jesse james, has been on trial liason between Mrs. Hite and jor ten days, and came to a conclu- sion this evewing, the jury finding defendant. The amount tor the sued for was $25,000. A series of j questions were submitted to the jury which were answered in substance xstollows: ‘‘Mrs. Hite had been mn jove with and hada liason with Jesse James; and that she had de-— seited her husband; tnat she had correspended clandestinely with a young man ia the neighborheod; that the Jesse James liason had caus- ed a disaffection mm the Hite tamily; that Mrs. Ilite swore out a warrant against Wood Hite, her step-son, charging him with killing the negro} Turner, because Hite caught him carrying nutes from Mrs. Hite tothe young man; that the publicatien in the Couréer-Fournal was substan- ually true; that it was not made with malicious intent to slander; that there were rumors in the neighbor- hood affecting Mrs. Hite’s character tor chastity and virtue, and that the defendant had reason to kelieve them true.”” The case has excited much atten- tien, the ceurt reem being daily crewded. The plaintiffs made a terrific fight through able attorneys, but uld Hite’s admission ef his wite’s infidelity made by lum to Governor Critten- den ot Missouri detailed by the latter from the witness stand, clinched the strong preef the Courier. Fournal had already offered, and the verdict creates no surprise ameng those ta- miliar with the facts. Two more cases of $25,000 each breught by the same parties against the Couréer-Fournal will probably sever be heard frem again. A Dog’s Exploit. From the Warwick Advertiser. Last Thursday afternoon a woman eking from her back window, in q the city otf Newburg, saw in the house opposite « little child hanging from a window-sill, but kept from falling by adog, who had caught the child’s dress in his teeth. The woman had left her baby. 1S months old on the floor of the front room playing with her toys and x little terrier dog that is its constant com- panion. The mother was away just three minutes, but when she came back and opened the door her intants’ head, arms and shoulders were hang ing beyend the stone sill of an open window, and near it, with its feet on achair stood the little deg holding on to the child’s dress for dear life. Her child, unconscious of any dan- gt, Was crowing at Some object in the yard, while the dog, holding en the dress, looked a mute appeal fer haste andhelp.
