Skeels was elected state president of the American War Moth- ers during the afternoon session of the state convention Wednesday. She succeeds Mrs. A. O. Christenson, Rugby. Mrs. Skeels appointed Mrs. C. G. Boise as corresponding secre- tary. Mrs. Peter Reid was elected custodian of records. Others elected for the coming year include Mmes. Frank Dow, Mandan. first vice-president; L. W. Spillum, Rugby, second vice-president; Christ | Billing, Lisbon, third vice-president; Evan Griffith, Kenmare, fourth vice- president; E. T. Danielson, Enderlin, treasurer; F. O, Roberts, Enderlin, recording secretary; Charles Kidd, Mandan, auditor; Anna Stark, Man- dan, chaplain;. and A. E. Jones, Lis- bon, historian. ; The War Mothers were guests at a luncheon Wednesday at the Country club, given by the American Legion auxiliary. Covers were placed for 40 at tables appointed with autumn gar- den flowers. Place cards marked the Places of the state officers. Mrs. J. C. Spare, president of the auxiliary, gave a short address of welcome. The War Mothers gave a rising vote of thanks to the ‘auxiliary in apprecia- tion for the luncheon. Music. for the afternoon session, which was opened at 2 p. m., with the presentation of colors by the Lloyd Spets post No. 1 of the American Le- gion, was furnished by Mrs. G. A. White tapers lighted the table. At each of the guests’ places was a red carnation, the organization's flower. Tiny American flags were at each place as favors. Rev. Ellis L. Jackson gave the in- vocation. One of the principal ad- dresses was given by Mts. The full con- test membership is to be sent to the annual high school music contest in Grand Forks next May. Haight, pioneer resident of Mandan, observed her 90th birthday Monday at the home of her niece, Miss Ethel Haight, with whom she has lived for many years. A number of gifts, congratulatory messages and flowers were received by Mrs. Haight, who has been. bed- ridden for a number of years. Mrs. Haight has been a resident of Mandan since 1682. She taught school there for some time.
