Merritt, 221 Third St., at the same time last week. The letters, written @ month apart, July 20, and Aug. 20, had probably been held in Tientsin, according to reports concerning the mails in China. At the time of Miss Burton's writ- ing affairs in Peiping were quiet and she was quite safe. Everyone who could, however, was leaving the city and no one was entering it.
