The coming of “Broken Blossoms” ‘to the screen again may well be listed as not an ordinary happening, but an event in motion picture history. For { this picture, which is scheduled to be- t gin an engagement at the Paramount theatre on Thursday, is already fa- “mous in film annals as an outstand- ing classic of the “silent” era, and ‘bracketed with the world-famous “Birth of a Nation” as the two pro- @uctions which made the name of Director David Wark Griffith known in every country under the sun where movies furnish entertainment for the masses. The last mentioned film was | undoubtedly the greatest visualization | of American history ever made pos- sible by the camera, and recognized ‘as such by critics and public. “Broken Blossoms,” on the other hand, was hailed as the most poignant, heart- thrilling romance that had ever ‘reached the screen in dramatic form. Its plot was as unusual as it was daring, as pathetic, as it was horrible in its’ vividly realistic brutality and *mervous suspense. Thomas Burke, from whose story, “The Chink and the. The song has been adopted as one of the col- lege tunes by the student body of the University of Wyoming located at Laramie in that state. The picture represents vividly sgainst the background of this beau- tiful western country a war between cattle rustlers and honest ranchers in which the Indian wards on a Wyom- ing reservation are used by a crooked government agent to shield his steer thieving. The agent uses his official Position and authority to inflame the Indians to a frenzied hatred of the tanchers, William Boyd as “Hopalong Cas- sidy” defies death at the hands of both the Indians and the rustlers as leader of the ranchers. He confronts the Indians in their war dance cere- monial preparatory to attacking the settlers and with courage and elo- quence makes them his followers in- Stead of enemies, He then leads a combined Indian-rancher attack on the rustlers’ stronghold which brings the film to a thrilling bullet-spitting, gun-smoking climax.
