WOMAN CONTINUES SITDOWN STRIKE ON STEPS OF CAPITOL Governor Makes Her Comfort- able But Hasn't Found Her Job She Demands ‘Des Moines, Iowa, May 6—(7)— From her sitdown “headquarters” on the state capitol steps, Mrs. Kath- ied Rush, 41, pleaded Thursday for & job. Apparently convinced that she would not regain the WPA sewing room job from which she was dis- charged, Mrs. Rush told reporters a9 the curious who came to watch : “I am doing it (the sitdown) to attract enough attention so that someone will see that I go back to work.” Mrs. Rush began her sitdown on the capitol steps two days ago in protest against her discharge from & WPA project Mar. 4. ‘The first night she slept on_ the hard steps of the capitol, but Wed- nesday night she slept on a cot, pro- vided by the capitol custodian after Gov. Nelson G. Kraschel issued in- structions to “make things just as comfortable as possible” for the woman. Reporters who saw her bed on newspapers, the blanket and a small cushion Tuesday night asked if the cold had bothered her. “No, I didn’t get very cold,” she said, “I know President -Roosevelt wouldn’t like this. I know Governor Kraschel wouldn't like it. But I've just got to have a job.” Mrs. Rush hitchhiked to Des Monies from Leon, ‘Iowa, Tuesday, She seid she had been unjustly ac- cused of being a “trouble maker.” Her salary, she said, was $40 a@ month.
