OCIETY and 4 12 Soule Compositions Are Sung at Evening Musicale Large Audience Hears Songs of ‘Bismarck Musician Inter- preted by Pupils ‘The reception and musicale present- ing a recital of original compositions of Ralph Warren Soule given Tues- day evening by the Mehus conserva- tory of music before 125 invited guests was perhaps the first program ever given in the Capital City with a com- poser interpolat audience, The affair was held in the World ‘War Memorial building dining room with Mr, and Mrs. Soule, Ralph Tru- man, Miss Belle Mehus and Miss Maxine Scharff receiving the guests at 8:15 o'clock. Eleven were sung by artist pupils and the last, “Nocturne” composed in 1932, was interpreted by Mr, Soule himself. Miss Mehus and Miss Jane Watson of Mandan pro- vided able piano accompaniments. The composer prefaced the recital with an account of his efforts at com- position from academic days to later years when he has reached his own style. He has been interested ever since his early student days in har- monic problems and his late composi- tions show a deft manipulation of dis- sonant chords without any suggestion of the distressing vagueness some- times found in modern compositions. ‘The songs were extremely singable and playable and would enhance any vocal program. ‘The compositions sung by Mr. Soule’s pupils, the years in which they were written and the performers fol- ; “June,” 1914—Miss Gloria Lutz H Lullaby,” 1915 “Noctune,” 1921—Paul Ytreeide; “The Prayer,” 1923—Mrs, Margaret Narum; “Song of the Sabre,” 1924—Gregory Dahlen; “Happy Hour,” 1928—Ted Boutrous, and “If You Had a Friend,” 1928—Miss Olive Johnson, ting his works for the 68rd Founders’ Day Of Sorority Noted Chapter N Committees For 1937-38 Selected Miss Ruby Schumann, who was acting as presiding officer for the first time, appointed her committees for 1937-38 as Chapter N, P.
