At Evansville, Ind., the Army has been assigned the job of feeding refu- gees and 14,000 meals are being served daily. Paper cups for coffee and milk are costing $75 a day. Other cities in which the Army is in charge of relief work are Cairo, West Frankfort, Anna and Cape Girardeau Harrisburg, and Herrin, Ill. and Charleston, Mo. In the communication received by Smith emphasis is placed on the fact that the work is costing thousands of dollars daily and more funds are urg- ently needed.
