Further business optimism combined with less apprehension over the for- cign outlook helped to bring in sup- sport for many of the leaders, It was not a one-way push, however, and there were about 1,800,000 shares. The list gave its best performance at the opening. The volume began to dwindle thereafter and light sell- ing cropped up in several depari- ments. Numerous favorites near the final period had substantially re- duced or canceled initial gains. Buying in the steels, aircrafts and amusements then appeared and led to an upswing at the finish.
