Mayo, 34, son of Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Mayo of Rochester, was killed about 1:30 a. m., Monday, when his automobile was struck by the North Coast Limited, Northern Pacific Close | passenger train, at a crossing about two miles south of Cochrane, Wis. Dr. Mayo, who had been on a hunt- ing trip along the Mississjppi river, was alone in the car except for his hunting dog, which also was killed. The train was speeding at between 60 and 65 miles an hour when it struck the car squarely. The wreck- age was dragged nearly a mile before the engineer was able to stop the train. According to the county coroner, the engineer said he saw Dr. Mayo's car just an instand before the crash, and that because of the momentum of the train, en route to Chicago, and the down-hill grade, he could not stop quicker. The body was brought to Alma, about ten miles from Cochrane. Dr. Joseph Mayo was born in Ro- chester in August, 1902. Surviving are the widow and two sons, David and Will.
