ADVANGE BY WINS OVER SALT LAKE CITY, BUTTE NINES Pierre Scores 9 Runs in Third| Inning, Defeats Utah Club 14-6 SEATTLE SCORE IS 23-0 Three Pitchers Star; Semi-Fin- als Set for Monday at 1:30 and 3:30 Pierre, 8. D., and Seattle, Wash., advanced to the semi-finals of the western sectional junior Legion tournament here Sunday at the ex- pense of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Butte, Mont. Pierre piled up a winning margin of nine runs in the third inning to defeat the Rotary club boys from the Utah city, 14-6. Five hits, four errors, two walks, and a player hit by a Pitched ball figured in the one- inning rout. Hitting two Butte pitchers almost. at will, a rangy crew of bal! players from the coast city piled up a 23-0 margin over the Montana-Idaho champions when the game was called in the sixth inning because of the 6 o'clock Sunday baseball law. Danielson, Davini, Star Two features of the first contest were the pitching performances of Danielson, veteran Pierre hurler, and Davini, clever little southpaw for the Utah club, Danielson granted nine hits, they were scattered, for the inning with Salt Lake City at with only one out. Danielson fingered his rosin Davini Grants 3 Runs but most part. He pitched steady ball, and his greatest asset was his ability to bear Gown in the pinches. In the second bat, Chioda lined out a double, Davini walked, Hemingway grounded out, and Perri walked, filling the bases bag, then struck out the next two men. Taking over the mound duties late in the third inning when his team was 11 runs behind, Davini granted the South Dakotans only three more scores during the remaining six frames. He delivered up four hits and whiffed eight. Seattle showed the 2,000 fans that jammed the grand stand something new in slugging pitchers. Hutchinson, who went five-and-a-|s third of the six innings against Butte, granted only two hits, fanned eight, and cracked out a home run, a triple, and a single in five trips to the plate. His circuit clout, hit in the sixth with two on, cleared the right fence by several feet. All Hit But One field Another heavy hitter for the Washington crew was Endress, short- stop, who connected for three doubles in five times at bat. Every Seattle player except one got at least one hit. Neither Foy nor Vale, the two Mon- tana hurlers, seemed to have the stuff with them Sunday to check the 20-hit barrage which blasted their team out of the running. Seattle and Pierre were to meet in the semi-final match Morday at 1:30. Final first round games, be- tween Holdenville, Okla, and Los! Angeles, Cal., and between Omaha, Neb., and Louisville, Colo., were sched- uled for 9:30 and 11:30 Monday morn- ing, with the winners clashing in the other semi-final bracket at 3:30 Mon- day. _THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE, MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 1936 Whitney (By the Associated Press) se Eau Claire .
