LOUISVILLE Former American Association Umpires Mayor’s Statement: BOYS WITH THE HIGHEST IDEALS Bismarck is indeed fortunate in being chosen as the host city for the Western Sectional Junior Baseball Tournament of the American Legion. This Tournament provides an opportunity for Bis- marck and North Dakota to witness an exhibition of America’s national pastime as played by the finest group of youngsters that can be assembled in the western half of the United States. ‘These boys, ranging in ages from fourteen to seventeen years, played a brand of baseball at Bis- marck last year, when we entertained the Regional Tournament, that was comparable to many teams in organized baseball. In addition, they are found tobe observing the highest ideals of sportsmanship and fair play, which is the fundamental principle and purpose of American Legion Junior Baseball. These 128 highly trained young Americans from eight Western and Southwestern states who are guests are royally welcome to the city of Bismarck, We feel highly honored and privileged to be chosen as the host city for this Tournament. I trust that each of the eight teams, winner or loser alike, will depart with a fine appreciation of the |} North Dakote Capital City and with « firm conviction that Bismarck is thoroughly sold on the American Legion Junior Baseball Program. I request that the Bismarck citizens and business firms do everything possible to make these visitors enjoy themselves ani that our people will attend these games in large numbers. I request further that the business firms allow as many of their employes as wish, the privilege of attending any or all of these games. A. P. LENHART, Mayor of Bismarck. From the National Director The champion of this year’s Western Sectional Tournament enters the Little World Series by virtue of drawing a bye and automatically plays for the national cham- pionship. j oe The American Legion's Junior Baseball activity pf is one of the most popu- lar and worthwhile proj- ects of the national Americanism program, If our organization is to continue building a better American citizen- ship through the base- ball activity, it is neces- sary that a greater num- ber of boys be enrolled in the program each year. Of equal importance is the strict enforcement of all of the rules. This can beaccomplished by stressing at all times the responsibilities of hon- esty and sportsmanship to every boy playing the game. The winning of ball games is not nearly. so important as giving the boys-the proper con- f ception of Americanism. H. L. CHAILLAUX, - - Director, American Le- gion Americanism Com- mission.
