Torgerson, Pastor. ‘The Green Pastures’ Pretentious Picture At last “The Green Pastures,” Marc Connelly’s Pulitzer Prize play that ran 18 solid months on Broadway and was road showed United States, thrilling millions of people comes to the screen. The picture, which retains all the unique qualities that made the stage production known as “America’s Best Loved Play,”, will have its local pre- miere at the Capitol Theatre on Sat- urday. It is said to be the most pretentious production ever attempted by Warner Bros., or any other studio. Absolutely nothing was spared in the making of the film to give this inspiring play the majestic background it deserves and to make it one of the outstanding Screen dramas of all time. . There are one hundred and twenty beautiful scenic settings, some of them of gigantic proportions, such as the sunlit glade in which six hundred characters attend a celestial fish-fry, the scene with Noah’s Ark breasting the flood in a terrific storm; a South- ern community, with its full sized church, its gambling halls and night clubs; the barbaric palace of the King throughout the, of Babylon, and the spectacular night club in which the Babylonic revel@ are held and in which 80 comely and shapely dancers entertain the king {and his courtiers. [Bob Taylor Thrilled By New York Crowds Before Robert Taylor makes a second trip to New York he intends to cool off and gain his second wind after his first one. | Taylor’s recent flying trip to New York was his first, but things hap- pened to him that he will long re- member. He told Barbara Stanwyck about them during their first day to- gether on “His Brother's Wife” set at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the picture which opens at the Paramount Thea- tre Saturday for three days. “I was there only five days,” said Taylor, “but they were five days I will never forget. One night I went to see ‘Dead End’ and when I came out of the theatre I was surrounded by a mob. Before I got back into the thea- tie I lost my necktie and all the but- tons on my coat and my pockets were torn off. The same thing happened when I made a radio appearance at a broad- casting station on the seventeenth floor of one of New York's skyscrapers. A huge crowd broke down the door, and when I started to leave the stair- way leading up the light well for 17 floors was crowded with people wait- ing for me. “It was a surprising experience. If I had gone to New York without being recognized I would have felt badly \ Fre ®@ WS: never miss making our customers feel at PATRONIZE THE DEALER WHO DISPLAYS THIS SIGN st QUALITY @ ..
