‘2 - Many Veterans Keep Bonds for Nest Eggs ‘Washington, July 31—(4)—Many veterans are holding onto their baby bonds instead of cashing them, lead- ing government officials to hope the securities will be retained for years as “nest eggs.” Figures published Friday showed that so far the treasury has distrib- uted $1,726,432.950 in $50 bonds, plus about $78,000,000 in checks for odd amounts. However, the veterans have re- deemed only $1.018,000,000 of the bonds for cash. That leaves $700,000,- ¢00 worth of the securities still in the hands of veterans. BAND ENDS SUMMER Marches of Foreign Inspiration | and Musical Show Hits to Be Played The Bismarck Juvenile band will conclude its third annual series of summer open air concerts at 8:30 p. m., Friday, at the William Moore school. This year’s programs have run for seven weeks and are under direction of Clarion E. Larson. On tonight’s program Mr. Larson is repeating a popular selection played earlier in the season, namely “May- time” by Sigmund Romberg. An- other selection to be offered from a famous musical show is “The Choco- late Soldier” by Oscar Strauss. This last number contains many ballads popular a few years ago. A wide variety of marches will be layed. The Spanish military march, ‘La Marcha del Soldadesca Espanol,” by Smetzky, is perhaps the most in- teresting in this group. A Mexican march, entitled “Zacatecas,” by Co- dina, is to be played for the first time by the local band. Other marches are taken from the works of K. L, King. The trombones are to be featured in a novelty called “Muttering Fritz” by Losey. The only waltz on the program is “Tesoro Mio” by Becucci.
