This was demonstrated on the set of “Ah Wilderness!” Eugene O'Neill's great American drama, which Clar- ence Brown directed for Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer. A glee club sings a class song of 1906 with lyrics by a student, set to the music of “The Blue Danube.” The rendition of the song, of course, is just as if directed by a school teacher of the day. The youngsters sing se- riously, but the old-fashioned lyrics, coupled with the Strauss music, make it extremely funny. The picture opens today at the Paramount theater, pode) Saturday, Sunday and Mon- a % Wallace Beery and Lionel Barry- more head the cast of “Ah Wilder- ness!” and Charles Grapewin, Aline MacMahon, Frank Albertson, Spring Byington and Mickey Rooney are mong the featured players. Ex- | —n5 Bette Davis, Franchot Tone Star in Picture Bette Davis comes to the Capitol jtheater today in her latest Warner Bros, production, “Dangerous,” with Franchot Tone playing opposite her and Margaret Lindsay her rival. The screen play by Laird Doyle is | said to be sheer drama of dynamic in- tensity and tremendous emotions, Bette has the role of a famous act- |Tess, who after rising to the top of the | ladder of success, tumbles to the gut- ter through her own egotism and sel- fishness, although she calls it a jinx, dragging down those who loved her. It is after her fall that Tone, in the role of a young architect, sets about sobering her up and trying to re- establish her as the brilliant star she had been. But Bette loves lightly and too well. She already has a discarded husband she has ruined, of whom the architect knows nothing. The situation leads | to a veritable scandal which ends in dynamic and tumultuous scenes and an amazing climax. Miss Davis is not presented in a pretty light, but the part is said to give her the strongest charactetiza- tion which she has had in films, The Council Trees, near Charle- voix, Mich., were planted 100 years ago by Indian chiefs, as a pledge of peace “so long as the trees bear THE GUMPS—SETTLED TO HER COMPLETE DISSATISFACTION er FIRST THING YOU KNOW THEY'LL ~ HAVE YOU DRESSED AS A BUTLER AND I'LL BE JUST THE MAID AROUND THIS HOUSE - YES- You've SETTLED IT ALL RIGHT- JUST A ONE MAN: LEAGUE OF NATIONS // (| IT WON'T BE QUITE SO FAIR IS IT?
