CALLS BIDS ON HOSPITAL ADDITION New Unit at Jamestown Ex- pected to Have Capacity | for 400 Patients | The state board of administration | Friday advertised for bids for con- struction of the new $350,000 ward building at the state hospital for the insane at Jamestown. | Construction will be started as soon fas $158,850 is made available by the federal government through the WPA, the board announced. The state will pay the balance of the cost from a $200,000 appropriation voted by the last legislature. The new building, with a capacity | of 400 patients, will be six stories high, | and will replace an old structure, one of the first built at the hospital. The old building has been razed by pa- tients at the institution, who also ex- | cavated for the new structure and / built the foundation. First floor joists | and steel work already have been | constructed to protect water and sewer | pipes from the weather. i} The balance of the work will be! done by the WPA. ‘The state hospital has a population of 1,806, the largest in its history. The new building will relieve an over- crowded condition, Governor Welford | stated. | Two Hog Production Plans Are Considered | Washington, Nov. 1.—(4)—The AAA will ask farmers next week which one of two plans they prefer to boost hog production 30 per cent in the 1936 corn-hog program. Under one plan farmers would have to raise more pigs to be eligible for benefit payments. ‘Under the other, farmers would be paid benefits only on the hogs they Taised, up to a maximum to prevent over-expansion. Either plan, Claude Wickard, corn- hog chief, predicted would stimulate production to an extent whereby the farm administration's goal of 30 per cent more pork might be realized. A &cotchman’s poor penmanship gave birth to the word “tweed.” He sent samples of “tweel” (Scotch for twill) to London and didn’t watch his “L”. The Londoner interpreted the word as “tweed” and it has re- mained that ever since. = | Farmers’ Cut Rate =| Meat Market bs John G. Gussner, Prop. eb...
