ES a “I - THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE, TUESDAY, MAY 21, 1935 First Time in Bismarck! “OUT OF THE SPIRIT OF °49° ».. DRAMATIC SOUND PICTURE OF , CALIFORNIA’S COLORFUL HISTORY! STRIKING, BEHIND - THE-SCENE_ VIEWS OF A GREAT INDUSTRY! There is a great treat in store for residents of Bismarck on Thursday and Friday afternoons, May 28rd and 24th, at the Paramount Theatre. The Bismarck grocers listed below have arranged with the California Pack- ing Corporation—packers of the world famous DEL MONTE Foods—for a spe- cial showing of their new sound and color film “Out of the Spirit of ’49.” Pronounced “Finest Industrial Film” by prominent grocery distributors, this six-reel production covers California’s romantic history up to the present day. Combined with it is a comprehensive, in- tensely interesting picturization of how some DEL MONTE Foods are grown and packed. This new film opens with a dramatic prologue of historical episodes from the very early Spanish days in California. The Spanish Padres are seen as they started to establish the series of missions that grew northward along the Pacific Coast from San Diego and San Juan Ca- pistrano. Here with crude implements and laborious care, agriculture had its first beginnings in California. From the first harvest of delicious fruit from trees and vines brought from the Old World, California’s fertile soil gave forth an- other, and very different, harvest of pre- cious metal and the cry of “Gold” was heard around the world. Then came the Days of ’49! Hardy pioneers struggling across the plains in covered wagons. Sailing ships, packed with prospectors, fighting their way around the Horn, heading for California. Adventurers from all over the world, drawn by that one magic word—GOLD. These men were the builders of Cali- fornia. Towns and cities appeared; in- dustries started; river waters were stored to feed the hot and thirsty soil, and dry, desolate plains became fertile and pro- ductive. From this historical background, the picture changes to show in great detail one of California’s present day sources of wealth; the growing, selecting, pro- cessing and packing of many important DEL MONTE fruits and vegetables. The Sacramento Delta Region with its mile upon mile of flat, fertile asparagus land; the sunny San Joaquin Valley—with its largest peach and apricot orchard in the world, owned and operated by DEL MONTE; acre upon acre of spinach, enough, it seems, to feed all the children in the world; these and a hundred other fascinating scenes are brought-to-life in this outstanding film. In addition to these features, many glimpses of world famous scenic beauty spots in California are shown: the Yo- semite Valley; the high Sierras; the Blos- som Festival; ghost towns—relics of Cal- ifornia’s gold rush days. Even Hawaii’s vast pineapple plantations appear in a rich riot of color. The closing scenes of this unusual picture show DEL MONTE products in actual distribution throughout the world. This film is not only dramatic, but educa- tional as well. Everyone should see it. Men prominent in the grocery industry pronounce it one of the most instructive, entertaining and beautiful industrial films ever produced. Don’t forget to ask for your tickets next time you visit any retail grocery store of this city.
