The announce- ment was made to the stockholders of RAC at the annual meeting in New York City. In his statement Sarnoff drew a | clear distinction between the status a . = of television as a laboratory achieve- White, soprano, ment and as a possible system com- parable to sound broadcasting. The latter, he said, remains the funda- mental system of radio communica- tion to the home with television promised as a step by step develop- ment that would supplement, not NOTED EXPERIMENT ‘Bishop Misbehaves’ Is Play for Sunday “The Bishop Misbehaves,” a cur- rent Broadway hit starring Walter Connolly, will be transported with its original cast to the Radio Theatre for the broadcast on Sunday, May 12, over an NBC-KFYR network from 12:30 to 1:30 p. m., (CST). The play, written by Frederick Jackson, tells the story of a bishop who all his life has been a detective story fan and cherishes the idea of figuring in a crime. He is unsus- pectingly thrown into the midst of a Tobbery at @ public tavern. Connolly will be supported by Jane Wyatt and Effie Shannon. WILL OUTLINE PLANS FOR STRATO FLIGHT Layman’s Language Will Be Used Over Air in Special Broadcast Scientific objectives of the National Geographic Society—U. 8. Army Air Corps 1935 stratosphere flight, sched- uled to get under way early in June, will be described in layman’s langu- ‘age in a special broadcast over an|Society, which is NBC-KFYR network at 8:30 p. m., (CST), today. Preliminary arrangements for the stratosphere invasion will be re- vealed by Major General B. D. Fou- lois and Brigadier General Oscar Westover of the air corps during the 30-minute broadcast from the NBC Washington studiog. Dr. Lyman J. Briggs, director of the National Bureau of Standards, will describe the elaborate scientific equipment which Captains Albert W. Stevens and Orville A. Anderson will the functions of this equipment and the information which it is hoped will be gained from the flight. George W. Hutchison, secretary of the National Geographic Society, will describe the task of moving the equip- ment from the east for the flight to the Stratocamp near Rapid City, 8. D. Preliminary arrangements for the flight are almost complete, and much of the equipment and personnel al- ready are at Rapid City. The giant 3,700,000 cubic-foot bag is expected to be assembled by the end of May.
