ASKS TRANSFER OF TRADE 10 NRA MEN J, E. Davis, Chairman of Recov- ery Committee, Addresses Plea to Consumers A request to transfer their trade in Ine with the NRA campaign was ad- dressed Friday to Bismarck consum: ers by J. E, Davis, chairman of the tocal business recovery committee. Davis urged buyers to purchase goods from merchants flying the blue eagle and also from home merchants tather than mail order houses. ‘The chairman's full statement: “The employer is risking the future by incurring extra expense in the ex- pectation that the future will justify it. This result can not be attained unless his sales increase. Now how tan we help him to live up to his agreement? Well, transfer our trade. Get Into NRA Habit “Today we confine our trade to some business man in general, because we hay, ived fair treatment from him, or we have been extended credit, Semen Co aa Grocery 512 Ave. D Beef Pot aes, per pound ...... 16c gaa California Fancy, cate wedecce ‘$1. 13 aap... FOC 25c 38c White Crosby Corn, 6 cans ....:. or we like him personally, or we pre- fer the goods he handles, or he is Worthy and needs business. There are other men, engaged in the same business, whom we have never pat- ronized. We did not find it conven- fent, or did not get into the habit, or had some other reason. But we do not feel we have boycotted him because we have not patronized him. We have our favorites because of our business relations with them or because we like} their general attitudes. Here are men who have signed the NRA agreement. They need support. By trading with them and not with those who refuse to sign we are not boycotting. Why not help those who are exerting every effort to improve living conditions? By including the signing of the agree- ment among the various reasons that actuate us now in trading we merely exercise our preference. If we are honestly in favor of getting the un- employed back to work, let us show it by our actions. It will not cost a cent extra, for even if there be a small increase in price we will find the same increase with the man who has not signed. Already we support the man who obeys the law, who proves him- self a good citizen, who is doing something worth while for the city. We withdraw trade from a man whose actions we do not approve. Let us use the same reasons here and trans- fer our trade to the man who is do- ing his part. Patronize Home Merchant “Again, transfer our trade to the home merchant. Even in a city the |size of Bismarck people send to mail | order houses for printing, for grocer-| jes, for dry goods, for different classes of merchandise, for insurance—ignor- ing the local man. Let us transfer our trade to the local man. Minne- apolis, Chicago and other cities are organized in support of the NRA Pro- gram. Each community is a unit by itself. It is only by each unit ap- proaching as near the one hundred Per cent as possible that we can have General recovery. If charity begins at home so does recovery. Transfer trade to the local man.” Farmers in Naughton Plan Labor Day Picnic Burleigh county farmers and their families will attend a Labor Day pic- nic at “the Rocks” in Naughton township Monday afternoon, it is an- nounced by Emil Johnson, Naughton farmer. The picnic will begin at 2 o'clock. H. O. Putnam, Burleigh county agri- cultural agent, will discuss the wheat allotment program and describe the set-up for distribution of funds and signing of acreage reduction contracts in the county.
