More than 200 persons were engag- | ed by the Fox Film Corporation to aid in the composition and syn-! chronization of the musical score of | “Cavalcade,” the film version of Noel Coward's famous play, opening to- morrow at the Paramount Theatre. The research on the music. alone; almost equalled that on the produc-} tion generally. From the start each piece, if only a single-bar or note, had to be cleared legally. And when the production department announc- ed that more than 50 compositions were to be included as musical back- Ground the legal department at Fox) Set the machinery in motion to gain| rights to the required music. This work became especially diffi- | cult because some of the pieces were literally in the discard and the or-| chestrations and original data had to be traced through many offices, files and memories. When the piece fin- ally was brought to light it remained for the staff at Fox Movietone City, | headed by Louis de Francesco, to ar-| Tange it to suit the special require- ments of the script. One million trucks in service in the United States are estimated to haul 1,430,000,000 tons of freight annually; 124,400,000 tons of this represents farm products, The British Colonial Empire now has an area of 2,000,000,000 square miles and a population of 50,000,000. Octopus Battle Big Punch of “Below the Sea” On the floor of the ocean there's a diving bell in which are a lovely girl and a sacred young man. Out from its cave comes a giant octopus—the most dreaded creature of the deep, It attacks the bell, and tears away its air hose and telephone lines. And then down come a brave diver with a weird weapon in his hand—one of those scientific torches that burns below water as well as above. And he does battle with the devilfish, van- quishes it, rescues the girl— Thrills! Plenty of them. Yet that’s only the topmost of a series of breath- taking situations that develop in “Be- low the Sea,” showing Saturday and Monday at the Capitol theater. Fay Wray is the girl, Ralph Bel- lamy the diver, and Fredrik Vogeding and Esther Howard, newcomers to the Screen but veterans of the stage, have the other important parts in this pic- ture. It's an adventure yarn, pure and simple and is highly recommended to those who would rather see their film favorites move around and do daring | things than sit around and speak wise-cracking lines—though there are a few of those in this great picture, too. Undersea scenes are photographed technicolor. A production of 200,000 motor vehicles during June has been pre- dicted. SWEETENS THE BREATH DOESN'T HE EVER CRY WHEN YOu PUT HIM To BED?
