Tracy Is Doughboy In Capitol Picture Lee Tracy in the finest role of his spectacular career—that of “Private Jones,” opened to a packed house at Capitol Theatre last night. This bril- liant young actor, who heretofore has ‘been seen in metropolitan roles. dons ‘the olive drab of an American dough- ‘boy and gives us an entirely new type of war drama, making “Bill Jones,” ‘the rebellious soldier, live as no screen soldier has ever lived before in motion pictures. The plot is new and well woven. ‘The characters are human, and the acting is superb, probably because the cast is of the first order. Tracy with his dynamic personality and ready flow of cracking dialogue deserves first mention. Mystery Thriller Reverses Crime, Confession First “The Crime of the Century,” mys- tery drama done in reverse order, with the crime confessed before its actual commission, has been booked for the Paramount Theatre, where it will open tomorrow. Stuart Erwin, Wynne Gibson and Frances Dee head the cast, with Jean Hersholt, Gordon Westcott and David Landau in prin cipal supporting roles. The story centers around Hersholt, an alienist who walks into a police station one night and begs the de- tectives on duty to lock him up. He {has planned a perfect crime for that jevening, he explains, and if the offi- cers won't take him into custody, he'll commit it. The policemen, im- Pressed, accompany him to his home. And there, while they look on, not only the murder he has planned, but | second one, takes place.
