Hedrix from three bullet wounds May 18 at Shel- by, Mont., was the result of a politi- cal feud lasting three decades, the dead man’s brother, Deputy Sheriff George Hedrix, said in Bismarck Monday. A. J. Hedrix, editor of the Twin City Advocate, newspaper published at Sweet Grass, Mont., was shot by Frank Nevills, a political opponent, according to his statement before his death, The dead man was a brother of George and W. P. Hedrix, both living in the Bismarck vicinity, and had liv- ed in Bismarck himself for several years before leaving here in 1907. Hedrix succeeded Nevills as city treasurer a short time ago, when the Montana supreme court ruled that Nevills’ appointment was illegal, but Nevills refused to turn over the city funds, which had been tied up in a bank at Shelby. Sitting At Linotype Hedrix was sittirig at the linotype in his office when Nevills entered and shot him with a .32-calibre automatic pistol, according to Hedrix’s state- ment. “Nevills shot at me twice,’ he said. I fell to the floor and he shot again before he left. I then walked to the back door and shouted for help.” An emergency operation at a Shel ——————— ABSTRACT OF STATEMENT For the Year Ending December 31, ta) A.D. 1931 _ Of the Central Life Isurance Company of Illinois, located et Chi- cag the State of Mlinois, Ageregate amount of mitted ets. $10,200,648.05 egate amount of ilities (except capital and surplus), including reinsurance Teserve —. i = % Amount of fully paid- k 42,631.67 up capital t 400,000.00 Surplus over a ties 58,016.
