THE BISMARCK TRIBUNE. FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 1932 STOCKS SAID MUCH LOWER Only 16,843,000 Bushels Stor- ed on Farms in State March 1, It Is Estimated Btocks of the principal grains—corn, wheat, oats, barley and rye, on North Dakota farms March 1, totaled 16,- 843,000 bushels as compared with 52,642,000 bushels a year ago and 46,- 997,000 two years ‘ago, according to the March 1 report of the federal ag- ricultural statistician, The March 1 farm supplies undoubtedly are much lower than any reported during the Jast 10 or 18 years, due to the short crop of last year, coupled with a heav- ier than normal disappearance for feeding purposes. Corn supplies alone, of the grains mentioned, are above the supplies on hand for either of the past two years. March first corn stocks are estimated to be 2,359,000 bushels or 11 per cent of the 1931 2,355,000 bushels on hand @ year ago, pi 1,206,000 bushels two years ago. the corn crop of 1931 was larger than that of either 1929 or 1930. ters: estimate that 47 per cent of the 1931 ctop was of merchantable quality as compared with 40 per cent of the 1930 ckop, and 53 per cent, the ten-year average. Farm stocks of wi 6,643,000 bushels, or si « crop. A year ago at are down to per cent of the normal demand for seed wheat‘in the state averages between eleven and twelve million bushels, Therefore, it is: evident that less than half of ‘the ‘thtal requirements are now in farm- eRtire crop compared with 78 per cent, the ten-year average. Contrary to eXpectations, the amount fed to live- stock is only two and one-half per cant larger than last year when 10 Per cent was fed. ee —$S “—— t At the Movies j pe ae ig CAPITOL THEATRE ‘Whirlwind: romance, pulse-quicken- Ing intrigue, thrilling shrieks of pow- erful racing cars, and good old- fashioned, unrestrained laughs are ase packed in Universal's “Rac- 1 Youth,” the Capitol film. minding one forcibly of the hon- est-to-goodness motion pictures that thrilled us all in the days of Warren Kerrigan, Wallace Reid and William 8. Hart, a handsome young fellow by the name of Frank Albertson falls in love with the beautiful heiress who owns the auto factory where he works, ‘wins the vital auto race in a thrilling finish, routs the villains, and then wins his boss in a delicious manner that makes you live it with him. “Racing Youth” is the sort of pic- ture that makes you feel that the world isn’t precisely doomed, and that alone should prompt you to pull on your bonnet and take the trolley or the flivver to the Capitol Theatre. The cast is complete and excellent. June Clyde is the sort of blonde who “registers” every time she “looks,” and Slim Summerville and Louise-Fazenda are, as ysual, unsyrpassed in their comic antics. PARAMOUNT THEATRE Where. has Lubitsch been? Ernst dubitsch, of course, the director of those almost naughty, witty, success- ful screen comedy romances starring Maurice Chevalier. “The Smiling Lieutenant” was the last of these, you recall, and if you saw this picture you [ee SPOHN'S 518 Ninth Phone 626 Calumet Whipping Cream titles, White King - Washing Powder, large See & Apricots California, No. 2% cans, Corn & Tomatoes Med. size tins, fe recall also that “The Smiling Leu-'etusion of all merriment. A godlike tenderness replaces the im- Pish insinuations of a maid tantal- izing @ man. A hunting, brooding, compassionate undérstanding of sim- ple, fundamental human nature in agony shows how deeply the man who makes people laugh can delve into the things that make people cry. Not that “Broken Lullaby” is a sad picture. Lubitsch is too broad to per- that he must have repognized in the script of “Broken Lullaby” an oppor- tunity of a lifetime to produce a drama to make people cry out, “This ts life itself!” So you'll be interested in “Broken Lullaby” on any one of a dozen scores.
