Disease Reports Are Declared ‘Too High’ Reports for smallpox and diph- theria were termed “altogether too high” by Dr. A. A. Whittemore, state health officer, in his statement of communicable disease cases for the month of December. Of 466 cases of communicable dis- eases reported to the health depart- ment last month, 53 persons suffered from diphtheria and 39 from small- pox. The diphtheria and smallpox cases were reported mainly from cities and counties where immuniza- tion against these two preventable diseases has not been ¢arried on to any appreciable extent, Dr. Whitte- more stated. Chickenpox, with 135 cases report- ed, caused the most sickness. Other communicable cases reported ' from . | throughout the state are: Influenza. 1, measles 48, meningitis 1, mumps 12, pneumonta 34, poliomyelitis 3, scarlet fever 89, trachoma 2, typhoid fever 2, tuberculosis 12, whooping cough 11, Vincent's infection 24.
